Cookie Policy
In one paragraph
We set the smallest practical number of cookies. The ones we set are strictly necessary (authentication, session) or functional (your preferred display currency). We do not run any third-party advertising or analytics cookies. If we ever add analytics, we will list them here and offer an opt-in.
What is a cookie, in this context
A cookie is a small text file a website saves to your browser. Cookies let the site recognise you between page loads. Some are essential to making a website work; others are used for tracking. This policy lists the cookies If You Die uses and what each one does.
Cookies we set
Strictly necessary
- Firebase authentication session cookies — set by our authentication provider when you sign in. Used to keep you signed in across page loads. Without these, the dashboard cannot recognise you. Expire when you sign out or after roughly 30 days of inactivity.
- __Host-firebaseAuthToken — short-lived id token cookie used for server-side authentication of API calls. Expires within an hour and is refreshed automatically.
Functional
- ifd_ccy — your preferred display currency on the pricing page (GBP, EUR, or USD). 365-day expiry. We never use it for tracking. You can clear it from your browser at any time.
Cookies we do not set
- No Google Analytics, Plausible, Fathom, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar product-analytics cookies.
- No Meta, X, Pinterest, TikTok, or other advertising-platform pixels.
- No third-party retargeting or attribution cookies.
We may at some point introduce a privacy-respecting, opt-in analytics tool (such as Plausible self-hosted). If we do, we will update this page and ask for your consent before any cookie is set.
Local storage
The application uses browser local storage for a small number of UI state values (form drafts, dismissed banners). Local storage is not technically a cookie, but it is similar enough that we mention it here. You can clear local storage in your browser's privacy settings.
How to control cookies
- Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings.
- If you block the strictly-necessary cookies above, the dashboard will not work — you will not stay signed in.
- Blocking the functional
ifd_ccycookie just means your currency preference is forgotten on every visit.
